Healthy Living with Rizopia

The lovely people at Rizopia sent me some of their products to review a little while ago and this week I finally managed to get some time in the kitchen to create my healthy masterpieces. Their range includes only 100% Natural Organic brown rice pasta.

I started with a vegetable lasagne and used their Gluten-Free brown rice lasagne sheets. I added so many vegetables it was ridiculous! There were mushrooms, tomatoes, broccoli, courgettes, peppers, with garlic, onion and paprika to add some depth of flavour. I also put a fine layer of cheddar cheese in between each layer of lasagne just to hold it all together.

The healthiest lasagne I’ve ever made and it was gorgeous! The pasta tastes even better than the regular stuff I buy from Tesco and knowing that the whole dish was probably half the calories of a normal one made it that much cheekier! The texture was soft but still a bit firm, like a really good kind of chewy and the nutty aftertaste sold it to me.

The second dish I made was using their brown rice Fusilli twists. I cooked the pasta as normal, drained off the water but kept a little bit to add back into the pan with the drained pasta. I then added my box of passata until it was stirred through and then added a handful of frozen garden peas just at the end so they were still a tiny bit crunchy when I bit into them! I topped the dish off with just a sprinkling of grated cheddar cheese.

This is an amazing dish to make if you want to plan ahead as you can make a big batch and freeze it for later, although this is what I have when I’m in need of comfort food and isn’t going to help your route to healthy eating if you have it every night.

Rizopia pasta is so good that it has been NHS approved and is available on prescription for those who suffer from Coeliac disease

Guilt Free Goodies

The lovely Natasha from Guilt Free Goodies sent me a beautiful package the other day!

There was a beautiful preserve jar filled with granola which consisted of nuts, seeds, coconut, coconut oil, honey & vanilla bean. There was also a packet of 6 Energy Balls which are made up of a mixture of nuts, coconut, vanilla and coconut oil.

Energy Balls

Natasha started eating Paleo a few years ago after trying Crossfit for the first time. The principles of the diet are eating as naturally as possible- no processed foods, no wheat, dairy, gluten or processed sugars.  After battling with food demons for years this lifestyle changed her life and helped her gain a healthier relationship with food and her body.

Her baking journey began when she took to the kitchen to recreate her favourite childhood recipe of banana bread in line with a paleo diet. Most of the goodies she sells, she has been making for herself for years and have helped her curb cravings and lose weight when eaten in moderation.

‘Guilt Free Goodies’  came from Natasha’s own guilt experienced when she ate something labelled as ‘bad foods’ throughout her years of trying to gain a healthy relationship with food.

We all know that guilty feeling when we eat something naughty. Guilt Free Goodies aims to produce homemade, all natural healthy goodies. Get all of the taste of something naughty, but none of the guilt! Dairy free. Wheat free. Gluten free. Preservative free. Refined sugar free.

From gorgeous granolas, creamy nut butters and delicious cakes, they aim to provide a selection of products that proves ‘healthy’ doesn’t have to mean taste free.

Perfect whether you are gym fanatics, paleo, have special dietary needs or just purely health conscious. Satisfy your cravings without ruining your hard work. Strictly natural sweetness means products are suitable for diabetics too.

The energy balls tasted like little balls of heaven… all coconutty it reminded me of being on holiday and were really filling.

With the granola I didn’t want to waste the beautiful jar so poured in Organic Vanilla bean yoghurt and topped with blueberries and orange blossom honey.

Eating Clean: The Beginning

As is the same every year, July held host to a wealth of Christmas Press events which officially put me in a festive mood. It made me think about how full my fridge and cupboards would be filled with fudge, cheese, cured meats, artisan bread and lots of cookies. Add mince pies to the mix and you have a recipe for disaster when it comes to healthy eating.

So, how am I going to stop myself from completely de-railing as we head into the Autumn season?

It’s tempting to say, “What the hell. I already blew it with that Hoagie from New York Deli, so why not continue inhaling everything with butter and sugar that’s in sight?” Tempting, yes.

But is it necessary to be an all-or-nothing kind of gal? Of course not. I have a plan!

It involves starting the day with a healthy breakfast and  focusing on eating whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins the rest of the day. This will help me to balance those decadent dinner parties and piles of seasonal treats.

Here’s a snapshot of my first week of clean eating!

Stay tuned and follow me on my healthy living journey…
